Medical Acne Treatments
Acne treatments works by speeding up the turnover of your cells, fighting infection, and reducing oil production. But you should realize that in some cases, your skin might get worse even before it gets better. So what are the most prescribed medical treatments for acne? Some of these include:
· Topical treatments – acne creams will dry up excess oil and kill bacteria. OTC treatments that contain benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid, or sulfur are effective in treating mild acne. However, if your skin no longer responds to these treatments, you may need stronger topic treatments such as Tretinoin and adapalene.
· Antibiotics – if experience moderate to severe acne, taking antibiotics may be recommended. It will reduce bacteria on your skin and fight inflammation as well. Usually, you need to take oral antibiotics while undergoing topical treatments.
· Isotretinoin – if your skin doesn’t respond to the above mentioned treatments, you might have severe forms of acne. In this case, you might need to use isotretinoin but you should be aware that it has severe side effects if not monitored properly.
· Laser therapy – laser therapies work by penetrating the deeper layers of your skin without damaging the skin surface. Usually, these types of treatments will damage the sebaceous glands so it will produce less oil.
